Wanted: Electrical and Firmware Designer/Engineer

Our Electrical Engineering team is looking for an electrical and firmware designer or engineer.

Purpose: Design, develop and implement control system architecture.  Work with the engineering teams on a line of diesel electrical and mechanical mining haul trucks, with primarily 24V systems and 2Kv electric drive system power and control wiring.  We are also working with new dual-fuel applications in the mining and off-highway industries.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • responsible for electrical control systems software design, development and testing
  • field troubleshoot, performance evaluate and operation validation of electrical control systems for new prototype mining truck systems; will involve travel to customer manufacturing facilities and possible remote mining sites for testing and validation.
  • design, implement, test and troubleshot electrical control monitoring system for mining trucks such as: brake systems, hoist system, steering system, information dismay system, fleet management system (wireless/satellite/GPS), payload system, lub system and J1939 communication systems
  • design, implement, test and troubleshoot electrical controller systems for dual fuel applications using diesel and CNG, LNG, methanol, etc.
  • create electrical schematics for each of the electrical systems, and integrating new, innovative, cost-effective and complex design into the electrical system
  • specify and develop control system architecture for large mining trucks, and all electrical devices such as controllers, sensors, actuators, and software architecture.

Experience Required:

  • Designer position requires Associated Degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree, plus 2-5 years applicable experience
  • Engineer position requires Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related degree, plus 2-5 years applicable experience
  • knowledge of DC and/or AC power systems and control circuitry
  • Experienced, daily use of AUTOCAD is required; this is a hands-on position.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity of product mechanical systems required, preferably in off-highway, mining, agricultural, locomotive or large-vehicle industries.

Experience requested, but not required:

  • PLC controller applications a plus
  • SolidWorks CAD experience a plus
  • Experience specifying programs and validating operation of varies electrics controlling devices for both low and high voltage operating systems.
  • Experience documenting and developing testing and troubleshooting aids of the vehicle systems and components.
  • Experience involved in preparation of schematics, part drawings and assemblies.
  • Simulations experience a plus
  • Chinese language skills a plus
  • Pay scale will be dependent upon degree and relevant work experience


  • Valid drivers license
  • Valid worker eligibility
  • Valid passport, or the ability to acquire one within 30 days
  • Ability to travel to internationally, and obtain a China visa. This position could be up to 20% travel and include global locations such as manufacturing facilities and/or remote mining sites

Detroit Heavy Truck Engineering, LLC possesses a World Class Engineering Team, this is unquestionable.  The accomplishments achieved over the past 30 plus years have established bench marks for the competitors to follow within the Heavy Mobile Equipment industry.  Our Engineers were responsible for the design and development of the World’s First 240 short ton Haul Truck in 1982.  This same team led the way again in 1998 by developing the World’s First 400 short ton Hauler.  In 2011 the First 400 short ton Hauler was designed by DHTE and built in China under the guidance and direction of our Engineering Team.  This marked another milestone of success for our Teams capabilities.  Development of these designs was made possible by this Team due to the many years of Field experience and Testing Capabilities.
